Thank You Etiquette

June 14th, 2007 by TheBride

There is plenty to know about writing thank yous. Most people and sites tell you that you have up to 3 months to write thank yous for the gifts you receive for your wedding. However, I have really never liked this rule. Thank yous don’t have to take an extremely long time to write and it really shows your guests how much you appreciate their gift if you can get the thank yous taken care as promptly as possible.

Most people go on a honeymoon so it isn’t like you need to take care of your thank yous the day after your wedding, but if you start to make a dent in the thank yous within a week or two of the wedding then it will end up being an easier and more enjoyable experience. The longer you wait to write your thank yous the harder it will become. It is better to write them while your presents and the event are fresh on your mind.

The hardest thing when it comes to thank yous is getting started. In order to make things easier for you it is helpful to read through some sample thank yous to get your mind going. It is important to remember though, when reading through samples and writing your thank yous to try to keep them original and unique.

This is important to keep in mind because depending on when you have your shower and how long you wait to write your thank yous, you could actually be writing your bridal shower thank yous after your wedding.

You should sign your wedding thank yous as a couple and use both of your names in the return address. Chances are your husband wont write many, if any of the thank yous, but not matter who is actually writing the thank you, both names should be signed at the bottom.

Big No-No’s

Don’t become a thank you factory where all your thank yous are exactly the same.

Don’t print your thank yous on the computer or photo copy them. All your thank yous should be hand written.

Don’t send out thank yous before the wedding or hand them out at the reception. This may sound crazy but people do it.
