Party Favors

Party favors are a nice way to send your guests off with a little memento from your wedding. However, there are a couple things you should keep in mind when picking out party favors.

Traditionally, candy or chocolates are used for party favors. This is nice option for you if you are thinking there might be a substantial amount of time between the wedding ceremony and reception. This favor would give your guests something to eat while they are waiting for dinner to be served. If your reception is outside during the warmer months of the year or if you are having it somewhere that isn’t air conditioned you may want to think twice about candy and chocolates though. I attended a reception once where chocolate kisses were wrapped in tulle for the party favor, but the hall the reception was in wasn’t air conditioned. As I went to pick up my party favor I discovered that all the chocolate kisses had melted and the rest of the guests and I were left with a big mess all over our hands, not to mention on the tablecloths.

If you are getting married in the late spring or early fall, when it isn’t still insanely hot out you might be able to get away with coated chocolate candy. This type of candy resists the heat more and isn’t as likely to melt.

If you are having your reception during one of the cooler months, then you really have a lot more options for party favors. In most cases your favors should reflect the mood of your wedding or the time of year. For example if you are getting married in late March or early April you may consider jelly beans since Easter is around that time. If you are having a late evening reception with a romantic tone you may give out tea lite candles. Some stores also carry battery powered candles so you wouldn’t have to worry about anything catching on fire or kids injuring themselves. You should be sure to ask the manager at your reception hall whether there are any fire restrictions if you are thinking about candles. Most places don’t have a problems with you burning candles but you should always check to be sure.
